Sonia Sarkar
Sonia's role with the Beloved Economies team is focused on providing support to different members of the BE community in terms of content creation, The Light Ahead podcast, and reader guide development.
She is also Director for Social Homes and Health Equity at the SNF Agora Institute's P3 Lab at Johns Hopkins University, where she supports movement-building organizations in illustrating how transformational organizing changes conditions for health equity. She serves as a Social Entrepreneur-in-Residence with Common Future, where she oversees Healing Capital, an initiative focused on supporting BIPOC communities seeking direct ownership of the capital and financing necessary for true healing and well-being.
She has worked as an advisor to The Healthcare Anchor Network, The Health Initiative, Health Leads, Shift Health Accelerator, and several other local and national organizations focused on shifting investments into health. Previously, she served as the Baltimore City Health Department’s Chief Policy and Engagement Officer, where she oversaw the design of Baltimore’s Accountable Health Community, a recipient of the CMS Innovation funding model aimed at delivering integration of patients’ social needs into clinical care. She also worked prior to that as a student advocate, program manager, and chief of staff to the CEO at Health Leads. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leader and a Truman Scholar, and holds a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, as well as an MPH and DrPH from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
