Brian Mikulencak

Research Collaborator

Brian Mikulencak has been a contributor to the research process since 2020, through participating in interview conversations and reviewing draft content for the manuscript of the book, Beloved Economies.

Brian focuses his legal practice on tax and nonprofit laws affecting social impact businesses, their investors, and nonprofits. His experiences include tax counseling related to business structures, financings and lending transactions, equity compensation, mergers and other acquisitive transactions, joint ventures, and cross-border transactions. He also works with nonprofit entities on formations, structuring transactions, investment structures (including funds and PRIs), and strategic relationships.

Brian is most excited by cooperatives and other legal structures that promote shared ownership and governance while advancing equitable goals. He lives and works in Austin, Texas, and before law school, studied design and worked in the architecture business.

Jaclyn Gilstrap

Jaclyn Gilstrap (she/her/hers) is an activist whose work has focused on supporting women and young people to get the resources they need. She is committed to things like sexual and reproductive rights, racial justice, youth leadership, and ethical global engagement. Jaclyn dabbles in visual art, loves a good queer dance party, and believes in the power of community-led protests. Her strengths are event planning, organizational development, and youth mentorship.
